HANGER RECYCLING
Recycling & Training
The project is run in partnership with Hangerman (Pty) Ltd. Hangerman company outsources their used-hanger recycling task to Vukuhambe on contractual terms and in return the project receives monthly income based on the mass of plastic materials that are collected back to the company.
Our beneficiaries unpack bags of used-hangers, remove paper stickers and separate steel clips and wires from plastic under the supervision of two project leaders. The plastic is repacked for Hangerman to collect and steel and wires remain with the organization for extra income. The participants benefit directly from income generated from the project.

ARTI-CRAFT DESIGNS
Manufacturing & Training
Beneficiaries are trained to mold various items from paper mash and clay materials using their hands. The idea behind is to unearth their hidden artistic skills and imaginations. The next stage is the manufacturing products of art to show case individual skills of disabled gifted artists.

CERAMICS & PAINTING
Ceramics & Painting
My name is Bafana Msizi residing in Gugulethu.
I grew up loving artwork and having attended exhibitions paintings and other hand craft skills. I was fortunate by getting myself a mentor and being exposed to ceramic painting and I got to do them myself. As time went on I started entering competitions and travelling around to explore and meet other skilled people who were making a living in creative thinking and painting.
As I worked with many different people I met a guy by the name of Zukisani from “Mnganam” he design and paint T-Shirts does bottle craft and more, he advised me that I should go to Vukuhambe Disabled Centre to see if I can train their beneficiaries and help share my skill. I did so in 2016 but things were not so good with the Centre but I kept in touch with them for when they are ready and I would provide my services to them. I visited the Centre again earlier this year and they promised me a call back and they did just that, so I am assisting the Centre with skills training and doing ceramic painting which they can also sell to tourists and other local people.
I am happy with the team that I have been assigned with, they are competent and focused. There are challenges but at least they are human so they listen and we resolve issues together immediately.

VEGETABLE GARDEN
Food Security & Training
My name is Nomntu Mnqandi and I am at Vukuhambe Disabled Centre as one of the disabled people.
I have a disability which is “Polio” but I and many other people at Vukuhambe do not let our disabilities stop us from doing what we love. I have been employed before by bigger companies and I was really loving it but until I noticed that I am straining myself and not accommodating my disability.
I joined Vukuhambe many years ago as one of their beneficiaries and doing recycling, cooking, cleaning and more. Today I have my own responsibilities and also been nominated to be a Supervisor for various departments.
I specialize mainly in the Garden section and I do with love and passion. I do the garden with other Vukuhambe’s beneficiaries which I train them on how to look and take care of the garden. I did a short course in Gardening at APD in Bridgetown, Cape Town and I came back with those skills to the Centre.
I started the gardening project in March 2017 and I have been taking care of it with my “children”. I do wish to see the garden growing even bigger than what it is now so we can start producing and selling to big super markets soon.
